Hy tools94, yes the dimmer switch redirects the input voltage from the light switch to one of the two filaments in the sealed beam, both filaments are not on together. The way you describe the terminals, if my memory is correct ground is 9 oclock, if my memory is bad, someone will be along to correct my statement, hope that helps.
