We have a metal caddys for gasoline and Diesel both in our shop where we maintain our trucks. Our insurance requires it. However, we also have convenience stores where we sell the Blitz "Jerry cans". However, they are not recommended for fueling a vehicle. We are not sure what they are recommended for, but we sell a lot of them. Of course we sell cigarets too. I would recommend metal. I use plastic jerry cans at home for my lawn mowers, chain saws, etc. and the plastic does become brittle after a few years. I grew up around gasoline and I will be the first to admit I take too many chances with it.
