I think the only difference you will see between any starter that will fit your rig will be the type of actuation. One requires you to engage it with your foot while the other only requires you to turn a key or push a button. Neither will turn any better or faster than the other.
With a good battery and clean properly sized cables and tight connections, your truck should start fine...they did this for many moons before the advent of the 12 volt system.
If you stick the car starter on and make sure all is tip top with the starting system, one flick of the key should get you going. This would be true for the foot starter too, but you have to mash it!
