This could be bum info because I have no idea what a Clark axle is. On my 4400, the tapered pins are the opposite as described by Bobb. The pins on mine go in from the FRONT and have the nut on the BACK.
The spring attachment points are wider at the rear than at the front so the holes for the u-bolts are at a slight angle.
Again, this is on a '54 4400 truck so I don't know about yours.
