it's both, that's why the cores that
are available are spendy unless they're 60's or newer
each series is different, there's 2 or 3 different style original heaters for every series, each with a different core .... the more common ones or ones that are the same across a number of makes, are available, if you wound up with one that isn't, or a local rad shop that isn't helpful, get inventive ... or wear a coat
