Hi,
I purchased a 1962 Chevy C10, 235 strait 6, 4 speed in the floor witha granny gear and a single barrel carb.. Been running it about 4 months now and I love it.. I've already done a bunch of stuff to it to keep it a daily drive and road worthy.. New head, new carb, converted generator to alternator, electronic iginition coversion..
I'm into keeping it stock as much as possible... My question is: Does anyone know what kind of gas milage these trucks are suppose to be getting? I've talked with a handful of people that have owned them with these engines in them and they've all said they got between 15 and 20 miles per gallon.. I have been getting 11 miles per gallon.. What am I doing wrong and what can I do to adjust or improve this?
I took it to a rear end guy and he said I'm running a 4:10 ring and pinion in the back which is pretty low.. He suggested perhaps running a higher ring and pinion like a 3:72 or a 3:55 which would bring my rpms down a bit.. But i'm not so sure that is why i am getting poor milage.. Any suggestions or imput?
Thanks, Richie
