Alberta chevy,
If you are looking at the suppliers such as Jim Carters, Chevs of the 40's or others, they should offer two types; One is the origial braded steel and the other is a plastic or teflon coated "modern" version. Due to price and the fact that I am trying to build a driver, I went with the teflon coated one. The ones they sell should be the right length for your truck. The teflon coated one does not fit real well into the crossmember holders. I had to open them up a lot to get the end to fit.

I did'nt exactly answer your question, only to say if you order for your truck from the old truck suppliers, you should get the right length cable/housing.

If you browse my webshots account, I have some pictures of the ends and how they fit into the crossmember holders.

I also just re-read your post and realize you are working on a two ton...so I am not sure what will transfer for info from my 1/2 ton to your 2 ton.
