I have a 1940 Chevy all that was missing when I got the truck was the hand brake cable to the rear wheels. Qyestion are all the cables the same lenght or is there a special size I have to get for this truck it is a 1940 Chevy 2 ton. Every thing else is there for the E brake but the cable. Thanks from alberta chevy

I believe yours came with a rod not a cable. There are several vendors that sell the replacement parts. However that part sold by so many vendors seems to me to be way too expensive for what you get. It looks like nothing more than a threaded rod you could buy at Home Depot and a shackle with a pin on the end.

Thanks for the info, my question still stands. I am looking for the size of cable that goes from the rear wheels to the cross over member that hooks up to the hand brake. I have the rod as you said but the cable that goes to the rear wheels is missing that is the question what size do I need or is one size fits all trucks

Alberta chevy,
If you are looking at the suppliers such as Jim Carters, Chevs of the 40's or others, they should offer two types; One is the origial braded steel and the other is a plastic or teflon coated "modern" version. Due to price and the fact that I am trying to build a driver, I went with the teflon coated one. The ones they sell should be the right length for your truck. The teflon coated one does not fit real well into the crossmember holders. I had to open them up a lot to get the end to fit.

I did'nt exactly answer your question, only to say if you order for your truck from the old truck suppliers, you should get the right length cable/housing.

If you browse my webshots account, I have some pictures of the ends and how they fit into the crossmember holders.

I also just re-read your post and realize you are working on a two ton...so I am not sure what will transfer for info from my 1/2 ton to your 2 ton.
