As another option for the 235 I would suggest you consider a pair of Carter/Webers. I found that the supply of decent Rochester and Carter cores was fairly limited so I made the transition to a single Holley/Weber on my stock 57 235 in my 54 truck. It performed flawlessly out of the box. Totally eliminated the rich condition and leaking problems of the 50 year old Rochesters.
On my replacement 1960 "built" engine, I went with the dual Carter/Webers as I was building for low-end torque. As with the single H/W, the dual C/W's performed flawlessly right out of the box. Set and forget. I've put over 4500 miles on my 60 engine and haven't had the first hiccup!!! My truck will cruise all day at 70 mph@2000 rpm's and my AVERAGE fuel consumption varies between 18-20 mpg. I know it could be better if I were a bit more attentive to my speed and driving style.
If you were camming for a higher torque/rpm, you might be wise to consider a pair of H/w's as they are rated at a bit higher CFM. I've documented my H/W and C/W installs in my Webshots...you might take a look at the process and see if this combination would be something you might want to consider. Granted the H/W and C/W's are visually "different" from the stock style carbs but they certainly make up for it by being great performers, a reasonable initial cost, in the ease of installation and tuning and don't seem to be effected by the blended fuels we are faced with using.
Tom Langdon of Stovebolt Engineering Co. is a great source of information on this setup as well as other 235 related info. I wouldn't hesitate to use this C/W setup on any vehicle that I wanted to perform flawlessly.
