Yes Neil, close, but no cigar. The 7272 Rustolium is to Gray and lacking in the gold or brown tint that the original paint had and that gives it that “Champagne” color that is described so often.
Sergent, I'm always willing to try the paints that are readily available on the retail market. The Duplicolor T415 I have been looking for since you posted the thread. Taint available at any of the stores in a 40-mile radius of me so far. But I will add it to the shelf FULL of others when I find it, just to say that I’ve tried it.
So far, after hearing, trying, comparing a couple dozen paint samples from hardware stores, auto stores, antique parts vendors I still find that there is only one paint that matches the original interior of an Advance Design Chevy truck.
And that is, one more time, PPG DBU/DBI #27467, which is the offset formula for the original, Ditzler #31104 paint supplied directly from the “PPG color library archives.”

Oh yes, can’t forget Bill Hirsch. The Gray engine paint that is sold by Bill Hirsch is incorrect according to the archivist at the VCCA. It is to light so you might as well just use Rustolium V7786 Smoke Gray at half the price. I have tried it and comparing it to the original paint fragments that were on my 1950, 216 engine block I would have to agree with them. The 216 Gray that is sold by The Filling Station does match the original color, which was quite dark.
