Ya know, this engine color subject has just about played itself out in my book. But one last thing that I went through last year was the same as you are encountering Woody. When I first sprayed the tin with the Krylon I complained of it being WAY to dark, almost charcoal gray. As you can see from the pics in reality it doesn't look that dark when you get it out in the sunlight. And one more time, this really does reflect the original shade of the chips that I later found on the block.
So now, I be done with this for good!!!!
What do ya think of the interior color compairisons? You got the eagle eye Woody when it comes to colors, but to my eye the closest and also the cheapest is the Rust-Oleum. I'll bet if you wanted to add a little brown or gold to it in a closely metered amount you could get a really good match. Then you would still have to figure out what to use for a flattener with Rust-Oleum.
Still, my money is with a quart of PPG. For sixty bucks you can just have the PPG dealer mix ya up the right stuff while your having a cup of coffee and dognut and have done with it. I guess this might sound kind of snooty but by the time your into striping and painting the interior of your truck, ya orta at least have a cheap Harbor Freight spray gun and small compressor which is more than adequate to apply canned paint instead of trying to do the job with a rattle can.
