Well I taint done my composition for this morning so I guess this is a good enough place to get it done.
I have to agree with the other guys on the paint striper. I pick up Mar-Hyde Tal-Strip II, Aircraft Coating Remover at F&F and it’s relatively inexpensive. Spray it on, wipe it off in 5 or 10 min. no problems disposing of it either. Next morning the pile of paint is just a lump of dried up paint.
Lye was about the only option years ago but with the new chemicals available today I don’t see any reason to use a caustic product like lye.
Oh and if it makes any difference, I strip, scrub with detergent, remove rust by method of choice, scrub with detergent then finish.
Looking at your bumper brackets Eric, they are in great shape, I simply would have taken them to the pedestal grinder with a wire wheel, scrubbed them with detergent and finished.
