All you need to do is take the slop out of the linkage at the trans. Your bushing are bad. Replace them.
When it does hang up just go under the hood and pull the shifter mechanisms parallel to each other. Sometimes this is not easy IF the truck is on a grade becaus there is tension on the gears. When this happened to me I put the parking brake on then pushed my truck a bit to get the tension off the gears.
