I recently rebuilt the brakes on my '54 GMC, I got all 4 wheel cylinders and master cylinder and lined brake shoes new from NAPA with no problem. The brakes work fine, you won't be driving a race car and will not need huge stopping power so the stock system is perfectly good. If you are updating to a V-8 you would probably want to go to discs.
