You can mount it anywhere you want as long as it sits straight up and down and it's set out from the firewall to remove the lid. All that will take is a spacer, which you can make with a hacksaw, file and drill. Once you mount it, then you can measure and get some new hoses, either at a parts store or at a hose shop.
But, how about converting to a full flow filter? I can't recall how deep you are into the engine.
