Maybe I do not understand your post, but the canister oil filter (mounted on the manifold with lines to the block) is shown on page 33 of the 1949 Truck Data Book (RPO 237B, 2.5 quart, as described by olblu49). The same oil filter is shown as a 3600 option in the 1950 PRICE INFORMATION supplement to the 1949 Truck Data Book for 1950 Advance-Design Trucks (and Passenger Cars).
David, here is a picture of the oil-line holes on a
1954 235 block. I assume the locations are similar on the earlier 235/216 blocks.
I do not know how an oil filter is connected to the lines/holes behind the triangular plate on the side of an early 235/216 block. I doubt if that was the "standard" location for the oil filter lines on pre-1954 216/235 truck engines; however, that type of installation does not seem to be rare. Maybe someone can post a picture and documentation?
