I have also seen the filter that mounts down on the left lower side of the block; does anyone have any more information on these? It obviously was not a Chevrolet option since it is rarely seen and not listed in any of the catalogs that I have seen. So who was this after market supplier of these or was it a GMC option??? I have seen the GMC filters mounted in different positions other than on the manifold. I have a buddy with a '50, 3104 that has one of the low mounted filters and I will take a picture of next time I'm over to see him. Never paid much attention to it because it didn't fit into my game plan. But it's still an interesting item.
It actually is a more logical place to put the filter. With the Chevy AC Accessory filter that mounts on the manifold the horn is in the way when you go to change the filter and all of them I've seen have the horn bracket bent forward.
