I came up with the 270 because of the HP rating. Blue chip GMCs that had a v8 would have had a vin that started 101 8 P. There was only one 6 cylinder offered for the 56-59 GMC light duty, and that was the 270. A much larger truck would have had a 302 6 cylinder. There are a few people out there that believe GMC put 302s in a few 1/2 ton pickups... I don't believe that to be fact... But if it were fact the HP rating would probably be 160 HP at 3600 RPM.
