I am changing third member on this truck, replacing 5.17 gears with a 69 automatic suburbans 4.11 gears. the new/used third member feels like it has a little more play in it, I have read the shop manual on how to adjust ring gear and pinion backlash but am looking for a better explenation of what it is I would be doing. I guess backlash adjustment for dummy's is what I need.
