Hy dgallagher and guys, adjusting the backlash on a used gear set can be a little tricky. The gears will have a wear pattern in them, under no circumstances do you want the gears to be contacting wear ridge to wear ridge which may be where they will be if you just re-adjust your backlash. Personally I would not install a used third member without dissassembling it and checking all the bearings and the pinion seal wearing surface, and installing new parts were required, hope that helps.
