Have you checked the oil level in the tranny?
there is suppose to be either a shield/slinger or a felt type seal in the front nose-cone of the tranny. Some have a helical cut groove in the tranny input shaft which when it is turning will sort of force the oil back toward the inside of the tranny.
Tranny gear oil will be a lot thicker and smell pretty bad as compared to the engine oil. If you are not losing any engine oil, I would definitely inspect the tranny.
