I used a 6/12-volt motor from LMC when I was still 6-volts. It was 2-speed but there wasn't much difference between the speeds, both fairly slow but OK.
After I converted to 12-volts, it went really fast, banged the blades around and the shaft slipped on the collar. After I got that repositioned, I installed the heavy duty resistor. The 2 speeds are still fairly close to one another but the speeds are faster than with 6-volt and no resistor.
