I guess it works because you say you did it. Back in the day when I was a bodyman we put the rubber on the glass, strung strong cord around the lip of the rubber that fit over the flange in the truck, set the bottom of the glass/rubber on the bottom flange, pulled the cord to work the rubber lip over the flange as a helper pushed the glass in.
