There is an interesting story behind my '59 John Deere 435, which is a diesel version of the 430 gas tractor. JD wanted to put a diesel in a smaller tractor before the New Generation tractors were introduced. They tried making their own, but it kept breaking crankshafts. They then looked at a Perkins, but it wouldn't fit quite good enough. That's when they looked at a 2-53 Detroit. Not only did the Detroit fit real well, but it kept in line with their 2-Cylinder tradition.
Sure glad on how it turned out!
