Starting an out-of-fuel Detroit is simple- - - -if you have a small electric fuel pump. Just toss a long hose into the fuel tank, and attach the pressure hose to the small center port on the secondary fuel filter housing. This fills the injector supply line and fills the reservoirs on the injectors. Once the engine fires up once, it purges the air out of the low-pressure gear pump. The pump will not self-prime once it gets air locked. When I ran my road service truck, there's no telling how much profit that little AC electric pump made for me!
