The link setup isn't what's making it ride harsh, it's the spring rate. You'll want a lower spring rate to soften the ride. As far as installation, the ladder bar would be the easiest. But I agree with BC52, go with the 4 bar, or better yet, a triangulated 4 bar, for better control and tuning.
