The heads could definitely use pocket porting. The factory machining for valve guides left some nasty ridges that will destroy the flow. Just clean up the pockets and a three angle valve job.
I'd consider a four barrel and an Offy intake. The Offy will give you good bottom and mid range torque. I have an Offy and Quadrajet to on mine. A lot folks are using the 390 cfm Holley.
