Many items vehicles come from the factory with and are not an extra charge were in fact originally an option. I can remember my old 51 came without a defroster, a 60 Ford truck came without a heater. Those and many other "options" became regular equipment as completion pushed. I also had a 55 Chevy two door that came without an oil filter. It was an option but a good idea to add one when making the purchase or later on when you could afford it.
