What kind of vehicle and what kind of problem you got?
How they work is, the body of the door stay mounts to the inside of the door and the arm protrudes out into the door frame area. It's pinned to the A-pillar. It has a couple of detents in the arm, which slides in and out of the stays' body, that assists in keeping the door partially open and a positive stop to prevent the door from over extending itself into the body.
