I bought a restored 37 pickup in Datona Beech a few weeks ago. I had it delivered by truck to Maryland where I live. The first time I took it out of the drive way within about 2 miles the transmission started grinding whenever I tried to shift gears. I returned home but by the time I drove the 2 miles back it would not shift gears--I drove back in second. The clutch seems to disingage the engine ok but the gears don't synchronize. I checked the transmission oil level and found it very low. Adding oil at this point did not make the situation any better. My neighbor is a mechanic, I don't know how good, but he says he can rebuild these transmissions. Any guesses what I am in for? I have ordered a gasket set and a small parts kit for the transmission.
