I really doubt that they'll fly apart while on the road. Many large trucks have split-rim wheels, and I haven't heard of any of them launching through somemone's car on the highway. From what I understand, if they seat properly, all is well. Big truck places will have a cage assembly where they put the wheel/tire assembly during inflation. If something goes wrong, the cage will catch it.
