When I brought my alternator into the shop, the owner and his son immediately recognized it as an old one. The owner said his son rebuilt one of them when he was 15--his first rebuild. They had some code number that they referred to it with. They said they could rebuild it in the lesser part of a morning. Mine was pretty soaked with oil, from my obvious front main seal leak.
