The reason most of the "big city tire shops" don't sercice split rims is that since they do generally specialize in car and light truck tires, which don't use split rims, they dont have the safety equipment to do it. I'll agree, if you want tires mounted on them, seek out a shop that handles big truck tires. They'll have the proper equipment to do it safely and correctly.
Taking them off, you should be able to do that yourself. there's instructions on how to do it in both the owner's and shop manuals for most of these trucks. If you don't have a manual, check out the online manuals on the Links page.
I appologize if my post started out as a rant, but I work at a Sears Auto, a "big city tire shop" if you will, and do take a little exeption to being referred to as not being a "real" tire shop. I have no issue wiht split rims, we just dont have any justification to have the proper equipment to service tham safely.
Again, no hard feelings, just had to rant a little. :blat:
