Asking for advice about six vs V-8 on this site is something akin to going to a Pepsi enthusiasts site and asking if you should take up drinking Coke
Agree that V-8's are something that "everbody" has, but on the other hand, there is a reason for that.
I'd say that by simply posing that question, you are not predisposed to an inline engine, so ask yourself what you want out of it.
I love Stovebolt sixes as much as the next guy, but even if you hop one up, you'll still be blown off by the next guy with a stock 350.
(Yeah, I know someone will say they had a hopped up 235 and won Modified Eliminator at the 1968 Winternationals, but realistically, the best you can do is maybe whip a small stock V-8). Put the same effort into the small stock V-8 and you'll go faster. Flame me if you wish, but that's a cold hard fact.
If you like the sound and feel of a six (and I truly do), have at it. But be prepared to pay more per developed horsepower. Nothing wrong with that at all.
Or put the same speed mods in the V-8 and you will go even faster for less money.
