I don't know if a battery will actually freeze..I don't think so. It seems like the best route would be to put the battery in the garage, sitting on something other than the concrete floor, and hooked to a dinky 'automatic' trickle charger.
A battery that sits in a discharged condition for any length of time will have a shorter life than a properly maintained one. I have always heard a battery should not sit directly on a cold concrete floor....don't know if this is true.
