i bought a modern cable crank down unit,(from a 90's chevy) about $20.00. welded two support bolts. extended the crank down socket rod back further to the rear and stopped @ the bed's edge. fashioned up a crank handle.
Tire's are heavy and this system is much easier to deal with when changing a tire than the stock method of lying on your back in the dirt/mud/cold/rain/snow to fetch the tire.
