So what you're saying is that the '50 carrier is different than the '52? My frame doesn't have the curved type top piece on it that dgrief mentioned on his '50 3600. There are two small u-channels on each side of the rear crossmember that the tire presses up against.

I can see how the original carrier is a pain judging from the shape mine is in with 35,000 original miles on it. The long bolt on the non-pivot end has been cut off at the bottom and another threaded section brazed onto it.
My parts book is a little vague on this subject. Sent you a pm Brian.
