Well I talked myself right into a new project lat weekend...helping one of my kinfolk rebuild a '58 Apache SWB Step Side. Not knowing very much about this year truck I naturally have a few questions for the elders...
1.) This truck has 5 bolt wheels on it, was that an option in '58 or am I dealing with someone else's half [censored]ed resto project?
2.) The engine and transmission are gone, but it had a V-8 in it at some point because the exhaust is still there, were they putting V-8's in them in '58?
3.) He also has a field full of other trucks that would make excellent donors for parts. A mid 80's one of them has a perfectly good 305 / auto trans in it. How difficult will it be to transplant that engine into the '58?
Oh well...enough for now, but I'm sure I'll be back with more questions later.
