Yes do it as you see fit. Your the one that has to be happy with it not anyone else. I went with a nova front end and a LT4 and a 4L60E trans. Its not running yet but I have a friend that has done several 50s 60s chevy trucks this way and they rode great and had tons of power and you could drive them across country in comfort with reliability. Otherwise my 57 is stock looking outside with the exception of american mags.
