My 48 had a clearance light bar that ran across the roof and was powered by a single wire through the roof. The lights weren't mounted to the cab but rather to a bar and some brackets attached to the rain gutter on each side of the truck. I'm sure it's some aftermarket add-on done early in your trucks life.
