Unfortunately in high density areas like I live (Chicago), old stuff is impossible to find. Junk yards don't have anything older than about '80, and tire shops won't sell you anything (if they've kept them) because they're scared of liability.

You may consider expanding your search a bit in your area.. Rockford, Rosco, S. Beloit.. places like that. I'll bet you could find a set cheap less than 2 hours out.. but then you'd have the drive time, etc.
If you can't find them locally, don't have the time to go get 'em, and have the bucks to just nab 'em off eBay at a premium price, then by all means snag those.
I have seen 'em sell cheaper on eBay, tho.
