See, now I figured they came the other direction. I thought the engineering department just came up with arbitrary model designations (like 14 for 1/2 ton SWB and 15 for 1/2 ton LWB giving you the 1500 series pickups of later years), and the marketing latched onto it.
This seems to make more sense than the rectal extraction.
