Here's what I did when I went to register my 64. All I had for information was an old registration form (pink slip) from 1974 with the owners name on it. The guy was very old and would never have gone with me to the DMV. I took the registration to the DMV and asked to make a duplicate title in the previous owners name. Then I took the title to him to sign over to me, which had to be notarized since he wasn't present (my secretary is a notary if you know what I mean). Then I transfered the title like any other transfer. It's kind of a hassle but you have to be nice and play their games to get anywhere with the DMV. Good luck,
