I just replaced mine in my 54. Got one from Chevy duty with a new sending unit for $198.17 including shipping and Missouri tax. I don't smell a bit of gas nor am I afraid of blowing up. In fact with the radio playing and the sound of the 283 I don't hear any sloshing either. For another $5.00 I could have gotten a new piece of brake line and put it in. Maybe you just need a 24.95 sending unit and a piece of fuel line. That would be pretty cheap. Is the sending unit not coming from the top of the tank? I thought they were all the same 47-early 54 in the cab tank?
