I would like to get a good assement of the Engine and Trans of a new 49' half ton. It appears to be a 235 with a 4 speed. Is there a good way of knowing what kind of shape the transmission is in, besides putting a good motor in it and driving it? Is there a good source for rebuild 235's. I was considering rebuilding it myself but have never done it before. How hard is a rebuild going to be for a guy that has never rebuilt and engine before? Sorry for all the questions, just want to do my homework before I start tearing stuff apart.
