Can anyone out there tell me what the triangular shaped plate riveted to the outside of the framerail directly above the rear axle is for? Mine had rusted through on one side and the other side had about a 5 inch crack along the bottom of it, so I torched the rivets, popped the plates off and welded a pair of plates on to strengthen the frame. Now I'm sitting here wondering if I made more work for myself down the road. This is on a '54 3100.
