I've had the seat in and out of my 49 several times. The cable is for the seat adjustment. If I recall (currently 130 miles from my truck), there is a clamp with a bolt head that is exposed when the seat is in one position (can't remember if the sides must be off, but it's easier to work on that way). Get the cable snug but moveable with the end pulley tensioner, then drop the seat on the frame. Fit the cable into the clamp and tighten (the clamp is just a 1/2 inch square of metal with a groove for the cable and the bolt hole). The cable does not attach to the lock lever, it just makes both sides of the seat travel the same distance, keeps it straight.
Sorry for the long post. May seem obvious to some, but it confused the hell out of me when I first saw it.
