Myself: U.S. Air Force, 1967-75, served in Okinawa, Thailand, Phillipines, Australia, Japan, and a bunch of other southeast asia whistle-stops.

Dad: B-17 pilot, at the ripe old age of 19!

My uncle: Swam through burning oil during the D-day landing, scarred for life.

I've traced ancestors back as far as the French & Indian wars, after the family emigrated to South Carolina in 1763. There's a Revolutionary war officer buried in a little churchyard there, so I guess military service is a "family tradition".
