Too much oil will not hurt at all. Just wipe off the excess with a paper towel or dry cloth.
Do not use thinner, gasoline, or any type of spirits (thinner/turpentine/etc) to clean off the oil. These substances will dissolve the soaptone-impregnated filler material (rubber?) - these types of solvents are used to remove the glass from the channel (as you most likely already know, from reading the manual).
By the way, I like your tag line. All those ingredients will be at our 4th of July Party - except for the whole pig. We will have 8 slow-cooked/smoked Boston Butts, home-kegged beer, and fresh oysters/clams (and many delicacies brought by good friends and neighbors). Truck rides for the kids. SummerTime is great - bring on the heat. (Please forgive my digression.)
