I bought my truck a couple of months ago. It was not running when I bought it. It is a 53 1/2 ton with a stick on the floor. The place I bought it from told me it was a four speed. I am not sure they knew what they were taking about, they never drove the truck. If it is a 4 speed, I assumed it would be SM420. Since the truck was never running, I have not been able to check it out. The truck does not have any information on it about the trans. Some great people on this site helped me identify the motor as a 235(it was changed before I bought it) and so I am back for more expertise info.

Can anyone tell me how to determine what trans it is, how to identify (numbers and location ect.)?

Can anyone tell me where reverse would be, and would that help confirm if its trully a 4 speed or 3 speed.
